TFNT is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising funds and creating awareness for Parkinson’s Disease (PD) and research through community involvement in North Texas, Wisconsin and surrounding areas, Since 2009.
Parkinson's Disease is a continual and depleting nervous system disorder stemming from an anomaly in the brain’s chemistry that slows and eventually prevents dopamine production. What does that mean? That means that the Parkinson’s patient sacrifices more and more control of his or her motor skills as time (and the disease) progresses.
Parkinson's Disease affects approximately 60,000 Americans every year. Worldwide, it’s estimated that as many as 10 million people currently suffer from the disease, according to www.pdf.org.
Parkinson's Disease is remarkably painful for the patient. Intense cramping and rigidity, uncontrolled convulsing or “tremors” and chronic bouts of partial paralysis can render what would be considered day-to-day tasks, practically impossible. Daily rituals like tying shoe laces or shaving become tedious. Parkinson's Disease also affects the body’s internal functions. Many Parkinson's Disease patients also struggle with anxiety and depression, amongst other things not regularly associated with the disease
With so many people affected by Parkinson's Disease, the lack of knowledge and awareness on behalf of the general public is astounding. People know cancer. People know Alzheimer’s. People don’t know Parkinson’s. And we’re here to change that. But we can’t do it without you. When you support TFNT, you’re not just supporting research. You’re also supporting your community. Your donations will go toward local events geared for education and inspiration, and will occasionally include a twist of excitation! For more information regarding planned events for the coming year and how you can help, just ask. WE WANT YOU TO BE A PART OF THE COMMOTION!
TFNT is not directly affiliated with the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
